While writing this story, I wondered how today’s children might connect with Lalka’s experience. I found inspiration in Whitwell Middle School’s Paper Clip Project, where students collected over eleven million paper clips to honor Holocaust victims, demonstrating that empathy and remembrance are timeless lessons for all.
